Soewardi Soerjaningrat (EYD: Suwardi Suryaningrat, sejak 1922 menjadi Ki Hadjar Dewantara, EYD: Ki Hajar Dewantara, beberapa menuliskan bunyi bahasa Jawanya dengan Ki Hajar Dewantoro; lahir di Yogyakarta, 2 Mei 1889 – wafat di Yogyakarta, 26 April 1959 pada umur 69 tahun^[1]; selanjutnya disingkat sebagai “Soewardi” atau “KHD”) adalah aktivis pergerakan kemerdekaan Indonesia, kolumnis, politisi, dan pelopor pendidikan bagi kaum pribumi Indonesia dari zaman penjajahan Belanda. Ia adalah pendiri Perguruan Taman Siswa, suatu lembaga pendidikan yang memberikan kesempatan bagi para pribumi jelata untuk bisa memperoleh hak pendidikan seperti halnya para priyayi maupun orang-orang Belanda.

Tanggal kelahirannya sekarang diperingati di Indonesia sebagai Hari Pendidikan Nasional. Bagian dari semboyan ciptaannya, tut wuri handayani, menjadi slogan Departemen Pendidikan Nasional. Namanya diabadikan sebagai salah sebuah nama kapal perang Indonesia, KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara. Potret dirinya diabadikan pada uang kertas pecahan 20.000 rupiah.

Ki Hajar Dewantara (2 May 1889 – 28 April 1959), born Raden Mas Soewardi Soerjaningrat in Yogyakarta, was a pioneer in the field of education in Indonesia.

Ki Hadjar Dewantara studied at ELS (European Lagere School), then he continued his studies at Kweekschool (Teacher School) and Stovia (Javanese Doctor’s School)

In 1949, he was chosen for Minister of Education and Culture.

The 2nd of May is Indonesia’s ‘National Education Day’, named in his honour.

He built ‘Taman Siswa’ for the people of Indonesia.

H.R. Rasuna Said adalah seorang muda yang mempunyai kemauan yang keras dan berpandangan luas. Awal perjuangan beliau dimulai dengan beraktifitas di Sarekat Rakyat sebagai Sekretaris cabang dan kemudian menjadi anggota Persatuan Muslim Indonesia (PERMI). Beliau sangat mahir dalam berpidato yang isinya mengecam secara tajam ketidak adilan pemerintah Belanda, sehingga beliau sempat ditangkap dan dipenjara pada tahun 1932 di Semarang.

Pada masa pendudukan Jepang, beliau ikut serta sebagai pendiri organisasi pemuda Nippon Raya di Padang yang kemudian dibubarkan oleh Pemerintah Jepang.

H.R. Rasuna Said duduk dalam Dewan Perwakilan Sumatera mewakili daerah Sumatera Barat setelah Proklamasi Kemerdekaan, diangkat sebagai anggota Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia Serikat (DPR RIS), kemudian menjadi anggota Dewan Pertimbangan Agung sejak 1959 sampai akhir hayat beliau.

H.R. Rasuna diangkat sebagai Pahlawan Nasional dengan Surat Keputusan Presiden R.I. No. 084/TK/Tahun 1974 tanggal 13 Desember 1974.

H.R. Rasuna Said meninggalkan seorang putri (Auda Zaschkya Duski) dan 6 cucu (Kurnia Tiara Agusta, Anugerah Mutia Rusda, Moh. Ibrahim, Moh. Yusuf, Rommel Abdillah dan Natasha Quratul’Ain).

Namanya sekarang diabadikan sebagai salah satu nama jalan protokol di kawasan Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan.
